Parking Charges...essential or a cash cow

When I grew up in London....many years ago now, parking charges and parking zones were gradually introduced and to be honest they were welcomed with open arms. My family never had a car so it made no difference to us but to our neighbours being able just to park in the road made such a difference when carrying heavy shopping, managing children or in terms of saving time having to drive round local roads just to find a space.

Conservatives - the party of the Working Class

I won't bore you with my story of coming from a working class background where both my parents were Irish immigrants who moved to this country for a better life for their family as it is almost a cliche now with people often competing for the best sob story of who had the hardest upbringing. That said my family worked hard, paid their taxes and became active members of their community.

To Milk or Not to Milk

The price that farmers get for their milk was the hot topic on the Farming Today programme this morning, with the interesting fact that the UK actually does not produce enough milk to meet its own domestic demands and as a result we import a huge proportion of our milk.

Let Britain Decide

Depending on which constituency you are campaigning in or even which part of a constituency, Europe is either a huge issue or one that hardly registers interest. That said for most of us we have never had a say about our relationship with Europe and those that did often feel they were sold something very different to what exits now.

Minister visits BHT

It was great to welcome Daniel Poulter MP, Minister for Health, to the recovery project run by BHT where the abstinence based 12 step programme is the basis of helping clients recover from drink and drug addiction.

Stop the Newhaven Food Waste Site

Lewes District Council, ran by Labour, Greens and the Lib Dems recently voted through plans to put a food waste site in Newhaven on the Lewes Road old tip site. There was no consultation with residents on this and it was only at the last minute that residents found out. 

Crime Survey

In Sussex we now have over 1000 extra police officers to help make our area a safer place to live.

BBC licence fee survey

I have been getting lots of complaints about the BBC licence fee with many people feeling it no longer represents value for money. I am keen to hear all views on this issue so please do let me know what you think 

Introducing the Flexi bus service

The new flexi bus service has gone live and for the first time in decades our rural areas now have an on demand bus service which will connect them to other local villages and towns.

Supporting local businesses

During furlough, over 13,000 people in the Lewes constituency payments from the Government and that is on top of all the help given with schemes like Eat Out to Help Out and Business grants.
