Lewes District Council, ran by Labour, Greens and the Lib Dems recently voted through plans to put a food waste site in Newhaven on the Lewes Road old tip site. There was no consultation with residents on this and it was only at the last minute that residents found out.
For too long Newhaven has been the dumping ground for the whole of the Lewes district and despite your MP, Maria Caulfield, securing over £73 million of Government funding to regenerate the town, your councillors at Lewes District have let Newhaven residents down again.
Plans to regenerate the town that are going ahead with the £73 million include
- new 3G pitch at Newhaven Football club
- re opening of the UTC as office space and training
- new landing stages for our fishermen
- a new fish processing site on Avis Way
- opening up of the West Beach Promenade with play area and restaurant.
- town centre redevelopment with work started already
- new GP medical hub bringing both practices in the town together
- new businesses opening up creating jobs for local people
- Newhaven ferry saved for another five years with ferry terminal upgrade
The new food waste site is in the heart of a residential community and it could have gone any where in the Lewes District but the Greens, Labour and Lib Dems chose to put it in Newhaven against residents wishes. Maria is trying to get the decision overturned so let her know your thoughts here by completing this short survey.
