Ringmer MP, Maria Caulfield, has spoken out against the Gleesons development at a planning appeal meeting at Kings Church in Lewes.
Two separate applications were made by Gleesons Developments, acting on behalf of Glyndebourne. Both were refused by Lewes District Council officers, under delegated powers. Both refusals are being appealed and both are being considered at a Public Inquiry, at which the local MP, Maria Caulfield has backed residents and spoken against the development.
The first sought permission for 200 houses to be built in the first two fields along Potato Lane, with a further area stretching almost to Ashton Green used for leisure, recreation and as a countryside buffer. The second was for just the first 75-dwellings: the same development in the first field, the second field left blank for the time being, and the same leisure, recreation and countryside buffer area, all within the same site red line.
Maria Caulfield MP said “Yet again Ringmer residents are faced with further development of a greenfield site on the edge of the village. Ringmer has taken more than its fair share of housing development in recent years and enough is enough.
“I am standing up for Ringmer residents and spoke out against the development at the recent public inquiry in Lewes. I am hopeful that the Planning Inspector will agree with the planning officers at the Council that this development is completely inappropriate and should be refused.”
The result of the Planning Inquiry is expected soon.
