Maria Caulfield MP has visited the headquarters of Eastbourne and District Samaritans to discuss their work and the Government’s upcoming suicide prevention strategy.
Eastbourne and District Samaritans is affiliated to the Samaritans national charity which is a unique organisation dedicated to reducing the feelings of isolation and disconnection that can lead to suicide. Samaritans provide a 24 hour service, every day of the year, to make sure there is always someone there for anyone who needs someone to talk to. As one of more than 200 branches and locations across the UK and Ireland, they contribute to supporting people all over the country and locally.
Maria Caulfield MP said “It was great to visit Eastbourne and District Samaritans to talk about their excellent work in the community and as part of Samaritans’ 24 hour service allowing people someone to talk to free of judgement.
“I was also able to update them on the Government’s Suicide Prevention Strategy for England, and we discussed the need for changes at Beachy Head, which has sadly seen record numbers of deaths in recent years.”
“Anyone in need of support can contact Samaritans free of charge anytime on 116 123.”
