East Sussex Shine service provides employment for local young people
Lewes MP, Maria Caulfield congratulated Shine, the not-for-profit innovative training opportunity for adults with a learning disability, on a recent visit to their car valet service at County Hall in Lewes.
Shine Car Valet Service is a high-quality car valet service , arranged and supported by Learning Disability Services within East Sussex County Council which is open to the public by advanced booking on Tuesdays. The aim is for trainees to gain skills that will increase their independence and give them the opportunity to move on to other voluntary roles or employment.
The service facilitates a positive public role for adults with a learning disability and raises awareness of their skills and employability. Maria met with a number of the trainees, some of whom have already gained employment through their work experience with Shine.
Congratulating the team, Maria said, “I would encourage anyone looking to get their car cleaned to use the Shine service. It can be booked via https://shinecarvaletservice.simplybook.it/v2/ and not only will it mean you get a great service from them but it also helps young people get essential work experience.”
East Sussex County Council states “Trainees experience working with other people, time keeping, customer service, money handling and of course how to clean the interior and exterior of the cars (to perfection).
Customer feedback has been consistently positive, and the trainees get many benefits from the job, including learning skills, making new friends, and increased confidence.”
