Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, recently met with the charity Down Syndrome Development Trust and the National Down Syndrome Policy Group to discuss support and advocacy for people with Down Syndrome.
Maria was invited to attend the Down Syndrome Development Trust’s inclusion project, based at the University of Sussex last Friday (17th November).
The charity supports those aged 16-25 with Down Syndrome and gives them support and resources in areas like work experience and life skills.
The young people are given the opportunity to develop business skills such as sports coaching and producing wellbeing products alongside activities such as watersports, outdoor pursuits, arts and drama.
When Maria attended the hub, she met with some of the staff, young people and their parents to see first-hand the valuable provision that the charity provides.
Maria Caulfield MP said:
“I would like to thank all the team at the Down Syndrome Development Trust for welcoming me to their inclusion project at the University of Sussex. I was able to see first-hand the vital and valuable work that the trust does to support young people with Down Syndrome, the team do an incredible job and the young people and their parents really value having this resource available”
