Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, is pleased to welcome the Government’s scheme to pay more to farmers who protect and enhance the environment.
The Conservative Government are pressing ahead with our reforms to farming policy in England, moving from ineffective and unfair subsidies for simple land ownership to instead rewarding farmers for growing food and improving the environment, whilst supporting them to invest in their productivity.
The Government’s manifesto guaranteed the current average levels of investment in farming of £2.4 billion per year in England over the life of this parliament. Across 2023, the Government will also be increasing the number of standards available under the Sustainable Finance Incentive so that more farmers can benefit. Including six new standards in 2023.
Maria Caulfield MP said:
“It is so important to support our farmers and rural communities, especially those who are working hard to protect and enhance our environment. This is why I am so pleased we are further supporting our farmers for protecting and enhancing nature and delivering sustainable food production under the Government’s Environmental Land Management schemes.
Myself and the Conservative Government are very grateful to British farmers, especially those in Lewes, for all they do and we are committed to supporting them through this transition as it is crucial we strengthen our environment and support our thriving food and farming sector.
