Maria Caulfield, MP for Lewes and Health Minister, announces new medical hub in Newhaven
Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes and Department for Health Minister, is pleased to announce the new medical hub in Newhaven thanks to Conservative Government funding.
The Government Town Deal and Future High Street funding is being used by Lewes District Council, to transform part of Newhaven town centre into a health and wellbeing hub, including new GP services.
With the leases on two doctor’s surgeries coming to an end, the council is working closely with local GPs and NHS Sussex to secure new and long-term primary care services in the town centre.
Work is advanced on the redevelopment of the old Co-op building in Newhaven Square and when complete, it will welcome a GP surgery that will integrate with health and wellbeing facilities run by Wave Leisure.
The plans will also include a second GP surgery in the neighbouring former Peacocks shop unit. Both surgeries together will also enhance services through the implementation of a new Primary Care Network.
Maria Caulfield MP said:
“I am very pleased by this announcement for the new GP medical hub in Newhaven. This will mean state of the art GP facilities for the town funded by Government which will support GPs and improve access for patients.
The services will also complement the new creative and community offers being progressed as part of the Government’s Future High Streets Fund.”
