Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, last week attended ‘STEM for Britain’, which is a major scientific poster competition and exhibition which has been held in Parliament since 1997, and is organised by the Parliamentary & Scientific Committee. Chaired by Stephen Metcalfe MP, its aim is to give members of both Houses of Parliament an insight into the outstanding research work being undertaken in UK universities by early-career researchers.
At the event Maria met with one of her constituents and finalist in the competition, Dr Elpida Vounzoulaki, who discussed her research on health inequalities for women following a diagnosis of gestational diabetes.
Maria was particularly interested in Dr Vounzoulaki’s research as she is the Minister responsible for Women’s Health and the Women’s Health Strategy.
Commenting on the event, Maria Caulfield MP said:
“I would like to congratulate Dr Vounzoulaki on being a finalist in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences category. I very much enjoyed talking to her about her research at the event, it is brilliant to see more women participating in STEM”
