Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, took part in the Football Associations 'Biggest Ever Football Session’ at Polegate School on Friday 8th March.
Following an historic 18 months in which the Lionesses have become EURO champions and World Cup finalists, there has been transformational growth in girls’ football in England.
In 2020, The FA set an ambitious target for 75% of schools to deliver equal access to football in PE lessons by 2024. This target has been met one year ahead of schedule. Outside of school, there has also been a 39% increase in the number of female youth teams since 2021.
On Friday 8th March 2024, the third annual #LetGirlsPlay Biggest Ever Football Session took place in schools across England. The aim of the event is to get as many girls as possible to all play football on the same day in schools across the country.
Maria Caulfield visited Polegate Primary school in her constituency, who had a whole day of activities for various ages to take part in.
Commenting on the event, Maria Caulfield MP said:
“I had a brilliant time at Polegate School, everyone I spoke to had an amazing time and I would like to pay tribute to Tracey Wallis and all the school staff for a very successful event.”
