Ringmer and Plumpton MP rejects Labours calls for new towns to be built in Plumpton and Ringmer.
Maria Caulfield MP for Ringmer and Plumpton has come out strongly against the proposed plans by Labour to allocate new towns in the villages of Plumpton and Ringmer. Speaking on the BBC SE show this weekend, local Labour MP Lloyd Russel Moyle said that any future Labour Government would be building new towns as their way of building more housing and that the villages of Ringmer and Plumpton would make ideal sites for these in Sussex.
Commenting on this Maria said, “ With the Greens and Lib Dems recently allocating the Eton college site in Plumpton in their Local Plan for housing and now Labour promising to build a new town in both Ringmer and Plumpton it very much feels like this is a coordinated attack on our countryside. The Lib Dems have been clear they would form a coalition to create a Labour Government and this is the price that local people would have to pay. Having this week received the great news that we have seen off the Gleesons development in Ringmer, this is a real slap in the face for all those supporting the Don’t Urbanise the Downs campaign who like myself are passionate about protecting our green spaces. “
