Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, recently attended a reception at Number 10 Downing Street celebrating Community Food and Farming Champions.
The reception was hosted by the Rt Hon Steve Barclay MP, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs and the Rt Hon Mark Spencer MP, Minister for Food, Farming and Fisheries.
Maria Caulfield nominated local farmer Richard Gorringe to attend the reception, alongside his daughter Louise. Richard has one of the largest sheep herds in Sussex.
The reception was held to celebrate British farming and the Government continues to support our farming industry and our rural communities and it is committed to the annual £2.4 billion farming budget in England.
As part of the £2.4 billion, the Government is spending £688 million on rewarding farmers for environmental, climate and animal welfare outcomes this financial year.
Commenting on the reception, Maria Caulfield MP said:
“It was wonderful to bring Richard and Louise to Downing Street, our local farmers do such amazing work and we must absolutely continue to back British Farmers”
