Maria Caulfield MP has visited Lewes Garden Centre, part of the British Garden Centre Group, to discuss issues in the sector.
Maria Caulfield, Member of Parliament for Lewes, sat down with Amy Stubbs, Group Project and Development Manager, to discuss key issues facing the sector including the Government’s ban on peat sales, gardening for mental health, involving children in gardening and what they can learn from it and employment issues.
The British Garden Centre Group is the largest family-run garden centre group in the UK. It is also the second-largest group in the country.
Their 60 centres span across England & Wales from Durham in the North to Wimborne in the South and Carmarthen in the West to Ramsgate in the East, and include Lewes Garden Centre.
Maria Caulfield MP said:
“It was great visit to the Lewes Garden Centre on the C7.
They have such a wide range of plants and garden supplies and a lovely place to enjoy a coffee and a chat.
It was very interesting to meet with Amy Stubbs and the team to discuss some really important issues facing the sector.
Amy mentioned it has been really difficult to get more children into gardening and it would be beneficial to add gardening to the curriculum as it can also help with mental health.”
