This year’s Small Business Saturday, which took place across the UK on Saturday (3rd December), was again supported by local MP Maria Caulfield.
The campaign, first launched in the UK in 2013, seeks to focus members of the community on the important role that so many small, local businesses play within their local area, and that supporting them, particularly in the run up to Christmas, as well as afterwards, will ensure that small businesses continue to thrive.
Getting fully enthralled in the day’s events, the Lewes MP visited a number of small businesses in Polegate, including Glenisters the Florist & Streetons Newsagents, where she discussed with them some of the challenges they are facing as a small business. In Polegate one of the key challenges is the lack of parking in the town which often drives shoppers away.
Speaking afterwards, the Lewes MP said:
“I have always been a huge supporter of our small businesses. I am well aware of the important role that they carry out within our local communities, as well as their importance to the local economy.”
“Small Business Saturday plays a vital role in highlighting local businesses in the run up to Christmas, and I was delighted to be able to play my part in this year’s campaign.”
