Maria Caulfield MP has signed a pledge calling for the Parliamentary Pension Scheme to phase out any investments in fossil fuels.
The pledge has so far been signed by over 270 currently serving and former Members of Parliament from across the House of Commons. The pledge calls on the Parliamentary Pension Scheme to quantify, disclose and review the fund’s investments in carbon-intensive industries, engage in a dialogue with fund members and managers on responsible investment, and commit to phasing out fossil fuel investments over an appropriate time-scale.
Maria Caulfield MP said “In the House of Commons we as MPs have been making great progress in tackling climate change including becoming the first developed nation to set into law a net-zero emissions target for 2050. Alongside setting laws to tackle climate change we must also take the initiative to do things ourselves, including to ensure that our pension funds are not invested into carbon-intensive industries. This would be an important step in the fight against climate change and showing that we as MPs are committed in all aspects of our lives to tackling climate change.”
