Maria Caulfield MP has joined Polegate Councillors, first responders and residents at the Polegate Defibrillator Project launch.
The project is a joint effort between the Town Council and local residents to raise funds for more lifesaving defibrillators in Polegate. A number of shops on the high street helped by displaying banners and collection boxes while the councillors held a coffee morning to contribute funds.
Polegate currently has two defibrillators in the centre of the town, but as the town grows many people are further away from them, so the campaign has been set up to install more defibrillators across Polegate.
Polegate MP Maria Caulfield is currently taking a Private Member’s Bill through Parliament that if made into law would see defibrillators in every school and public building in the country.
Maria Caulfield MP said “When someone suffers a cardiac arrest even a few minutes without proper CPR or a defibrillator can be the difference between life, life limiting injuries, or death. It is so important that Polegate, and every town, has a wide coverage of defibrillators.”
“New defibrillators tell the user what to do and will only provide a shock if applied correctly and a cardiac arrest is detected, so almost anyone can use them to save a life. Well done to all in Polegate who have made such a success of their defibrillator project launch.”
