Street harassment

However I can reassure you that action is already being taken to address this. The Government published its updated Violence Against Women and Girls (VAWG) strategy in March, which includes specific actions to address sexual harassment. Many forms of this are already criminalised under existing offences. The Law Commission has commenced a review into hate crime legislation, which, at the Government's request, is considering whether sexual harassment of women and girls in public should be considered a specific hate crime. I also welcome the new Voyeurism (Offences) Act, which criminalises the reprehensible behaviour of upskirting. There can now be no doubt that this activity is criminal and will not be tolerated. For the most serious offences, this law will ensure that the offender is also placed on the sex offenders register.
You will be pleased to learn of a commitment to introduce Relationships and Sex Education in all secondary schools. This will ensure that concepts such as healthy relationships, consent and boundaries are taught to children.
I know that the Government is committed to tackling sexual harassment in all its forms. However, I agree that there is still a long way to go. I hope you are reassured by the steps that have already been taken and I am confident that progress will continue to be made.
