Maria Caulfield, MP for Lewes, was delighted to attend Friday prayers at the Seahaven Islamic Community mosque.
Ms Caulfield visited the mosque in central Seaford at the end of July, and was greeted by Mohamed Ali Hayder, a Chairman of the mosque. Accompanied by the Mayor of Seaford, she was able to observe afternoon prayers and learn about their significance in the context of the Qur’an.
As Member of Parliament for the area, Maria then spoke to the worshippers about her role. She also enjoyed refreshments and was able to talk to worshippers on an individual basis.
Following the visit, Maria said, “I had such a warm welcome. It is always wonderful to gain a greater understanding of the worship practices of our faith communities and everyone I spoke to was very insightful and keen for me to learn more about Islam.”
“The mosque’s recent move to their present location at centre of Seaford has really benefitted the local area and I look forward to working with Seahaven’s Islamic Community at all opportunities.”
