The Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, has today announced that Newhaven will receive £19.3 million as part of the Government’s plans to level up across the UK .
Newhaven’s local MP Maria Caulfield was part of the Town Deal Board which put in the bid for this funding for Newhaven as part of her drive to regenerate Newhaven to create more jobs and investment in the town.
Newhaven is one of only 15 other areas being announced today which have successfully received their Town Deal funding and the funding will go towards schemes such as;
• Regenerating business space in parts of the town such as Avis way to able more businesses to relocate to the town creating jobs for local people
• Creating a Hydrogen hub in conjunction with Brighton and Hove Buses so that Hydrogen can be used to fuel them in an attempt to improve the air quality of the town which has some of the worst pollution levels in the SE.
• Improving the tourist destinations such as Newhaven fort and work has already started on the Sidings Bistro which is part of the plans to revamp the entrance to the Port and make the town more welcoming for visitors.
• Invest in sports facilities particularly for young people in Newhaven such as a new 3G pitch at the football club which will enable the sports college there to go ahead
This £19.3m is on top of other massive investments from the Government including £5m from the Future High Streets Fund, over £6m from the Port Infrastructure Fund, £1.2m from the Getting Building Fund, and £800,000 from the Cultural Recovery Fund for Newhaven Fort.
Residents are already able to see the benefits of one project under the Destination Newhaven strategic programme at The Sidings at Railway Quay, with the new café opening recently and has been visited by Maria Caulfield MP.

I am delighted that the Prime Minister has given his backing to Newhaven and approved our Town Deal bid, giving a huge £19.3m in investment for regeneration in Newhaven.”
“Over the next few years the projects set out in the bid will come to life and residents really will see a difference with nearly 300 jobs created or safeguarded, a 63% increase in visitor numbers, 90 new affordable homes unlocked, 250 learning opportunities created each year, and more than 18 acres of new or refurbished community and green spaces.”
