Following an intervention by Maria Caulfield MP the Minister for Planning will be meeting with both Lewes and Wealden District Councils to discuss their local plans and housing in East Sussex.
Both Lewes and Wealden Councils currently do not have an up to date local plan meaning that precious green spaces are at risk of inappropriate development.
The Minister for Planning, Christopher Pincher MP, will be meeting with local councillors and council officers to hear first hand the pressures that we are facing in the South East.
Maria Caulfield MP said “Housing and planning is one of the biggest issues in my constituency and I am contacted by hundreds of people a week who are concerned about it. The government has made clear that brownfield must be prioritised over greenfield sites but when councils are failing to have a local plan it does put greenfield sites in jeopardy. I am pleased that I have been able to lobby ministers to get them down to the Lewes constituency to speak with both Lewes and Wealden Councils about the pressures that we are under locally and the need for these local plans to be in place.”
