Newhaven has been chosen as one of only 100 places invited to develop proposals for a new generation of multi-million-pound Town Deals thanks in part to the work of Maria Caulfield MP.
The towns eligible for support from the £3.6 billion Towns Fund include places with proud industrial and economic heritage but have not always benefitted from economic growth in the same way as more prosperous areas.
Maria Caulfield MP has been fighting the corner for Newhaven in Westminster, ensuring that Ministers knew how much of a difference the extra funding would make to the town.
The government will soon publish a prospectus to guide towns through the process and set eligibility criteria for funding. New Town Deals will improve connectivity, provide vital social and cultural infrastructure and boost growth – with communities having a say on how the money is spent. Decisions on funding any proposals will be made in due course.
Maria Caulfield MP said “Newhaven being selected as one of only 100 towns, and one of only 25 outside of the North or Midlands, to receive a Town Deal is excellent news for the town and is a sign that the economic regeneration of the town is continuing.”
“I have committed to the economic regeneration of Newhaven and have helped to set up the Enterprise Zone, secured the future of the ferry, and have helped secure Government funding to boost the towns prospects. I will continue to fight for Newhaven to regenerate the town and its economy.”
