Maria Caulfield MP has met with Businesses at the Avis Way Industrial Estate to discuss a range of issues.
The Newhaven MP met with Michael Kianfar of Foodhaven and neighbours Sol Gilbert & Alan McGuinness of Underground Gym. Discussions were around the regeneration of Newhaven, how businesses and staff can be attracted to the town, and how the Newhaven Enterprise Zone has made a positive start.
Underground Gym was brought to Newhaven by Sol and Alan, with the help of Michael who wanted more facilities in the local area to encourage workers to come to his and neighbouring businesses. It was confirmed that the new gym has encouraged workers to the area and that local estate agents have been using it to entice fitness fanatics to move to Newhaven.
Despite only being in place since the summer Newhaven’s Underground Gym has over 1000 members and is looking at how it can help the local community with outreach projects and taking on apprentices.
Maria Caulfield MP said “It was great to be able to visit both Foodhaven and Underground Gym to not only see these fantastic businesses but also to discuss what more could be done to help the business community in Newhaven and encourage other businesses to set up here.”
“I was pleased to hear that the Newhaven Enterprise Zone is helping businesses. However there is more to be done and I will certainly continue to look into what national and local Government can do to help encourage businesses.”
