Recently elected Member of Parliament for Lewes - Maria Caulfield spent the first morning of her summer recess visiting the Bluebell Railway at Sheffield Park on Wednesday 22nd July. She was received by Roger Kelly – Funding Director and Roger Garman – Communications Director.
Maria had recently added her endorsement to the resubmission of our application for funding to the Heritage Lottery Fund in connection with the ASH (Accessible Steam Heritage) project at Sheffield Park. Her time with us afforded the opportunity to provide an overview of the railways operations aswell of course as a tour of the site for ASH.
Her tour included a visit to Atlantic House where she also met Chris Hunford – Locomotive Director and sponsor of the ASH project.
Maria said: "It was great to meet with representatives from the Bluebell Railway. I am a firm supporter of the Railway and was pleased to give my backing to the funding application to the Heritage Lottery Fund. I will be keeping my fingers crossed."
Whilst at Sheffield Park Maria was also introduced to Sam Bee - Vice Chairman B.R.P.S. and Russell Pearce – Operations Director
Before leaving us the opportunity was also taken to give her a view of the Q’s footplate prior to its 11.00 departure where driver Mick Blackburn introduced her to his crew for the day.
A frequent visitor to the railway in the past we hope to see her again before too long.
