Maria Caulfield MP has visited Bishopstone Railway Station to hear about the progress of works on the art deco building.
The local MP was shown around by Barbara Mine, the Chair of Friends of Bishopstone Station, who talked her through the progress so far.
Phase 1, the launch of the community hub, took place on Wednesday 20th July 2022. It has seen the complete transformation of the old store/old parcel room to incorporate a kitchen area and large floor space which can accommodate community activities. Southern Rail’s Passenger benefit fund, other funders and Friends of Bishopstone Station fundraising activities have supported the renovation.
The Railway Heritage Trust are funding new signage, windows and door renovations in keeping with its Art Deco Heritage.
Maria Caulfield MP said “I have long been a supporter of the Friends of Bishopstone Station and all of the wonderful work they are doing to restore and transform the art deco building. It is amazing that not only are they restoring the physical building, but that it will be transformed into useful areas for the local community.
“I’d like to thank Barbara Mine and all of the hardworking volunteers at Friends of Bishopstone Station for everything that they are doing.”
