Maria Caulfield MP has signed a cross-party letter to the Conservative Leadership candidates calling on them to free Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe as a priority once in office.
Nazanin has been in prison in Iran for more than three years. She has been away from her husband and daughter and her physical and mental health are in a perilous state, having recently been moved to a mental health unit in prison.
The Lewes MP has now joined over 100 cross-party MPs in writing to both potential Prime Ministers calling on them to make freeing Nazanin a top priority once they are in office. As the tension builds up with Iran it is even more important that Nazanin can be brought home as soon as possible.
Maria Caulfield MP said “It is heart breaking that Nazanin has been in prison away from her family for over three years now. Whoever is the new Prime Minister they must make bringing her back to the UK a top priority for them and their new Government. We must keep up the pressure on the Government to ensure that they are continuing to use all diplomatic channels to resolve the issue as swiftly as possible.”
