Wivelsfield’s MP, Maria Caulfield, and District Councillor, Nancy Bikson, have joined residents at a Don’t Urbanise The Downs event in the village.
The event was held to provide local residents with information regarding the plans by Eton College for over 3000 housing units on greenfield land in the area.
Both Maria Caulfield MP and Cllr Nancy Bikson are standing with residents in opposition to the Eton College plans and will be doing everything possible to stop this destruction of our countryside.
Maria Caulfield MP said “Along with the government, I believe that we should be prioritising brownfield sites for the building of new homes. To destroy such a large area of the countryside at the foot of the South Downs National Park, almost connecting the villages of East Chiltington, Plumpton and South Chailey is completely unacceptable. I stand with the thousands of local residents in opposition to this plan.”
Cllr Nancy Bikson said “I was pleased to see so many residents showing their support for the campaign at the Don’t Urbanise the Downs event. I will do everything possible to help stop this devastating plan for over 3000 homes on such an unsuitable site. Residents were delighted to see our local MP Maria Caulfield and to know that they have her fighting their corner is such a boost.”
