Last Saturday, I attended the public exhibition at the Hillcrest Centre showing the exciting plans for the new fire station proposed for the Saxonholme site in Meeching Road in Newhaven. I talked to local residents; most are really supportive, while a few are concerned about what will happen to the existing buildings and the additional traffic that might come to the area.
It is a very exciting time for Newhaven which sees, at last, realistic investment after many years of broken promises and failed attempts. Exciting projects in the pipeline in addition to the new fire station, include £8.9 million of flood defence money which will make Newhaven more attractive for investors, the proposed University Technical College which is due to be completed by September 2015 and the investment secured for the Newhaven Growth Quarter which will bring much needed jobs to the area.
Both Lewes District Council and East Sussex County Council should be congratulated on bringing new investment in to Newhaven. Not only does it show what can be achieved with joint working but more importantly the investment will offer greater opportunities for the residents of Newhaven.
