Chief Secretary to the Treasury visits Newhaven’s Paradise Park

Maria Caulfield MP has been joined by Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Liz Truss MP, to visit Newhaven’s Paradise Park, who recently celebrated 30 years in business in the town.

Paradise Park Garden Centre recently celebrated its 30th anniversary and is the first of Tates of Sussex’s garden centres. Alongside the large garden centre, there are some of the finest gardens in Sussex, with several small lakes, waterfalls, fountains and plant houses. As one of the largest employers in Newhaven local MP Maria Caulfield thought it the perfect location for a visit from the Chief Secretary to Treasury to highlight economic growth and regeneration in Newhaven.

Following a tour of Paradise Park Liz Truss MP and Maria caulfield MP sat down with a number of staff members to hear their views on all things related to the economy, work, and taxes. The Chief Secretary will be playing a key role in the Government’s spending review, deciding how taxpayers’ money is spent by the Government, and wanted to find out what ordinary people think should be the top priorities for Government spending.

Maria Caulfield MP said “I am grateful to Liz Truss MP for coming to visit Paradise Park and meeting so many of the staff. As well as giving me an opportunity to highlight an excellent local business in Newhaven it also gave the Minister an important chance to listen to ordinary workers’ views on the economy and how their tax is being spent. It is vital that Ministers and the Government listen to people outside of Westminster when forming policies as these are the people that will be effected by the decisions.”

Darren Clift, Director of Paradise Park said ““We were delighted that our local MP Maria Caulfield and a key government minister in Liz Truss chose to come and visit our business. We are a proud family run firm in its 5th generation and always strive to be part of the community providing service and employment for local people. Our team that took part in the focus group felt really engaged and were pleased to be asked to be involved and have their opinions considered.”

Liz Truss MP, Chief Secretary to the Treasury, said “I’m in Newhaven to meet workers and hear about their priorities and ambitions for the future. With the Spending Review later this year, I’m visiting the south coast as we build a British economy fit for the future. With unemployment down and exports going up, we want to support an economy in Newhaven and across East Sussex that works for everyone.”
