A26 resurfacing brought forward following Lewes MP intervention

Resurfacing works on the A26 between Newhaven and Beddingham are to be brought forward by almost a year after local MP Maria Caulfield contacted Highways England regarding the unsafe conditions of the road.

Highways England have stated that due to the rapid deterioration of the road planned resurfacing works will be completed by October 2017 rather than in 2018.

Additional funding will also be sought to carry out full resurfacing works on other sections of the A26. Highways England are hopeful of having 75% of the road resurfaced by the end of the year.

The A26 is to have safety inspections on it carried out every 28 days with any safety critical defects repaired within three days.

Maria Caulfield MP said “Many residents have contacted me about the dangerous condition of the A26. Having raised the issue with Highways England I am delighted that they have listened to myself and my constituents and will be bringing resurfacing works forward.”
