This is My Plan to improve our local area:

1: Better Roads

I have been working with East Sussex County Council and Highways England to ensure improvements are made to roads across the constituency. These include a new two lane bridge across the Cuckmere to reduce traffic and pollution, £75 million of safety improvements to the A27 making it safer for all users, calling on the County Council to install traffic lights at Bishopstone Junction to reduce accidents. I have also worked to try to reduce speed limits on a number of rural roads and through villages that are suffering from speeding and large HGVs using the narrow roads.

2: Better Health Services

I was an NHS nurse for over 20 years specialising in oncology. The NHS is a passion of mine and I want to ensure that local people can get world class healthcare here in Sussex. Eastbourne District General Hospital is to receive government funding to be rebuilt with state of the art facilities. Residents can be therefore be confident that the DGH is here to stay.

3: School Funding

Once again we are getting more money for our local schools with an average of a 3.8% increase secured for all schools across the Lewes constituency. I will continue to fight to ensure our schools have the resources they need. A first class education gives children the opportunities to succeed in later life, and I want to ensure that our local schools can provide this..

4: Safer Communities

I know that residents are concerns about being safe in their communities. Sussex Police has been bolstered by an additional 129 officers since the Government launched its major police recruitment drive in 2019. The addition of these new officers brings the total number of police across Sussex up to 2,904, meaning there are now more frontline officers on our streets to keep the public safe. Sussex Police have also launched a new rural crime unit to specialise in policing in rural and isolated locations.

5: Supporting the Local Economy

I regularly meet with and talk to local businesses across the constituency, whether that is small businesses in rural villages or national companies with a presence in our towns. Since being elected I have championed the potential of Newhaven and have supported its regeneration with measures such as an Enterprise Zone, securing the ferry service for another five years, being part of the Future High Streets Fund, and securing a Town Deal of up to £25 million.

6: Protecting Green Spaces

I am absolutely passionate about ensuring our wonderful countryside and coast is protected both from housing developments but also from litter and pollution . I am pleased to join local volunteers in keeping our green spaces clean.

Keep up to date
