23 Days To Go: Newhaven Regeneration

As Part of her top 24 achievements as an MP for 24 Months across 24 days before the General Election Maria Caulfield’s number 23 is the regeneration of Newhaven Town Centre.

Maria Caulfield, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Lewes, has seen the great potential of Newhaven Town Centre and that it had long been neglected by the Lib Dems. Since being elected in 2015 Maria made it a priority to realise Newhaven’s potential.

The regeneration has seen Harvey’s brewery decide to invest in Newhaven by re-developing The Bridge pub which has been derelict for many months. OTher signs of regeneration include national retail chains are seriously considering the town, a new University Technical College has open, and the Post Office is to remain in the town centre in a newly refurbished unit with longer opening hours.

Maria Caulfield said “Newhaven had been forgotten about by the Lib Dems for decades and has never been able to reach its full potential. When elected I promised to help realise this potential and we are on our way to doing so.”

“Working with Conservative run Lewes District Council we have created a Newhaven Enterprise Zone which has created 55,000m² of new commercial and employment floorspace, given business rate discounts to businesses and protected over 2000 local jobs.”

“I am committed to driving Newhaven forward and to the regeneration of the Town Centre, creating jobs for local people.”
