Regenerating Newhaven

Newhaven had been neglected for years by the local Lib Dems who have run the town council and been both your district and county councillors. From the introduction of the ring road which killed the town centre to the fight with the French port which saw the beach closed to local people.

That is why when elected, I moved my office to Newhaven determined to regenerate the town. Since 2015 we have seen new businesses come to the area as it is now an Enterprise zone which has financial benefits to local businesses, we have see the start of the regeneration of the port entrance with the opening of the Sidings restaurant. The ferry has been saved with its future secure for another 5 years and the Government has invested in the port with a new port building to make the travel experience more welcoming for passengers. We have also seen our local schools going from failing to every single one being either good or outstanding and providing our young people the best opportunities in life.

With £50 million of Government funding we are now seeing the town centre being revamped, a new 3G pitch for Newhaven FC, our fishermen getting new landing stages and a fish processing plant and plans to reopen the West Beach promenade with a play area and restaurant with discussions underway about the beach.
